Reply that the S. of S. was not aware that the letters by Mrs. Haslewood published in all the papers were identical. Point out that though there is no express mention of ill-treatment or cruelty, there is clearly the implication of cruelty and ill-treatment since she describes this system of domestic service as a "hideous stain", speaks of the need for affording "protection to these unfortunate little girls" and says that "it would have been thought that the Br. members of the Leg. Ccl. together with the whole Br. community would have unanimously risen in protest against the whole infamous system as it now stands" but that they had not done so. At the end of the letter she speaks of the "true sordid and shameful facts of the case".
